Minimalist is the name of the game at this $2,125 UWS no-fee studio rental, which is the perfect size and style for minimal upkeep (well-suited for someone who can store their "stuff" elsewhere, or purge it all together). Plus, The Greystone building even has a maid service that tidies up your room for you -- like a hotel you can live in.
Serve a healthy side of Vitamin D for dinner all year ‘round in this nearly nearly $20 million TriBeCa penthouse. The serene indoor/outdoor dining room reminds us of a greenhouse.
One wall is covered from ceiling to floor in 50 feet of windows that continue at an angle to form a spectacular skylight over the dining area. To settle a fine meal, guests can take a short step out the sliding glass doors to the 2,000-square-feet of expertly landscaped Japanese garden.
Since my last installment of Farm to City, I have temporarily parted ways with my beloved NYC sublet and moved back to in with my fiancé in Ohio. This was not by choice since I have loved living in NYC probably more than anywhere else I have ever lived, but rather out of financial necessity.
Rest assured, I will be back.
In the meantime, as an exercise in perspective, I'll wind down this column with a sampling of my friends' and family's reactions to my sublet.
Take a look at one of the square-foot tiles in your bathroom and imagine it costing $74. We have found a (13,500-square-foot) TriBeCa rental asking $74 a square foot, or $100,000 a month. Needless to say it comes with some pretty cool cool extras.
When searching for an apartment, many New Yorkers (and soon-to-be New Yorkers) are wary of walk-ups. I honestly don't understand this because for the last five months, I have been living on the fourth floor of a walk-up building with almost no complaints.
Moving in wasn’t much of a struggle, but I think it would have been difficult if a) I didn’t have three other people helping me, and b) I had more than four suitcases. As it was, I was an easy project on move-in day.
Since then, I've had to come to terms with only a few lifestyle changes.
What better place to beat the heat than chilling out in your very own wine cave? This $65,000 (per month!) 6-story mansion in Lenox Hill comes fully equipped with plenty of space for wine storage. The lowest level is a completely finished and fully-fitted thermostatically controlled wine cellar with its very own tasting table. Say that five times fast! Now have a few glasses and try it again.
